The long, strange journey of Monster Carnival

Longtime Poptropicans know that Monster Carnival was supposed to be one of our earliest Islands. It was announced in 2008, and even added to the travel map with a message that said “Coming Soon.” Then it disappeared without notice.

Why?

There have been a lot of explanations over the years. Some were closer to the mark than others. Frankly, we’d like to let the conspiracy theories go on, because they’re more interesting than the truth. But it’s time we came clean.

Monster Carnival was removed from the Poptropica travel map because it wasn’t finished, and everybody was too busy with other projects to give it the attention it needed. That’s all! We really just announced it too early, got onto other things, and never came back to it.

But as Monster Carnival continued to live on in the imaginations of our players, we couldn’t let it go. What a great name! Every year, when we discussed what new Islands to make, somebody would say “Monster Carnival!” and everyone else would nod. Then we’d pick a bunch of other Islands to do instead.

Maybe we were intimidated. We all know what happens when something becomes anticipated for too long. Better to leave it as an unrealized dream, rather than risk not delivering.

Well, every dog has his day, and the same is true of a great idea for a Poptropica Island. Monster Carnival is very real this time, and we hope it is worth the wait.

I heard that the island was too scary for kids, so they got rid of it. That clown face on the Ferris Wheel = creepy.

New Poptopics books are coming soon!

We’re just a few weeks away from the release of two more books in our Poptopics series. These books explore the real-world facts that inspired some of your favorite Poptropica Islands. The truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction!

Scary Monsters¬†gives you the low down on the myths and legends behind the creatures you’ve encountered in your adventures on Cryptids Island, Vampire’s Curse Island, Zomberry Island, and more. All of these monsters have a basis in fact — and we’ll reveal them to you!

Wild West is all about the amazing true history of the American frontier. Find out what parts of Wild West Island are made up, and which are based on fact. You might be surprised to learn which is which!

Both of these books will be released on February 20, and are available for pre-order now from Amazon.

Building the Land

So Poptropica released an all-new member’s only features (the Poptropica Labs), and they have gotten every single screenshot (apparently) sent by members.

It’s been just over a week since we opened up an¬†experimental new feature¬†for our Members to try out. Since then, thousands of people have created their own spaces on Poptropica and sent us screenshots of their work. There’s some great stuff here! We wanted to spotlight just a few.

Big Raptor built this cool launch pad, spaceship, and command center. We are ready for lift-off.

Fast Comet built a huge structure above ground, but it was the underground dungeon that caught our attention. Watch that water table!

Mad Tiger brings us this stately abode, only two gables short of being worthy of literature.

Here, Serious Bird tries to set the record for most stuff piled up in one place.

We’re loving all of it! Can’t wait to see more. If you’d like to try out the Land Prototype,¬†become a Member today!

They did mention it was a prototype – do you think that means they’ll release it to non-members after a while too?

Monster Information

Hi guys, Nicey here. As you should know, MCI is coming out, after 5 years of hopes and wishes! (I posted about it previously anyway). The Monster Carnival Island Information page is out too, check it out here.

monsterCarnivalChar

In the dead of night, a caravan rumbles into town. The traveling carnival has returned! But this is no day at the park. Behind the lights and the laughter, the carnival harbors a dark secret. Buy a ticket if you dare, but beware ‚ÄĒ once you enter, you may never be able to escape the Monster Carnival!

This reminds me of the Geronimo Stilton’s The Peculiar Pumpkin Thief, where an evil clown steals everyone’s Halloween decorations and uses them to build a Mystery Mouse Theme Park, which he uses to lure all of New Mouse City’s mice and lock them in, meanwhile getting his clown cronies to rob everyone’s houses. Of course, Geronimo saves the day in the end.

Anyway, what goes up must come down, but what goes in does not necessarily come out….beware the Ringmaster!

Bonus Quest

Monster Carnival Island Bonus Quest image

The town is safe, but now a prominent citizen is missing. Has the monster carnival claimed another victim, or is something else behind his disappearance?

Exclusive Items

Members get an additional Monster Carnival gear pack, which includes Ringmaster costume, Hypno-Powder item, and Raven Swarm power. The Ringmaster costume is ONLY available until the end of Early Access!

Once again, magic in a can! Enjoy, members (when it comes out)!

Don’t forget there are always extras! Here is the:

Red eyes…that’s a first! I just like what the PHB suggested in a post, Monster Carnival Island’s trailer does not include “Now with sound”, which means it MAY be released in Poptropica’s original index format, and this means there is a possibility we will be able to costumize those malevolent red eyes from that vicious monster! Talking about malevolent, doesn’t the clown in the Ferris Wheel of the photo look strange? It looks different from this one:

And why are the lights green at night? Any ideas? Maybe it’s after the Carnival turns evil under the influence of the Ringmaster!

(retrieved from the Poptropica Help Blog)

I have grown an irrational bias against the Ringmaster. Anyway, he sucks, and Ringmasters don’t really have good reputations. Anyway, maybe the cheery outlook of Monster Carnival and these pictures have finally explained why recent Daily Pops for Monster Carnival Island have been showing terrifying three-eyed beasts and at the same time cute lovey-dovey couple pictures. Seeing them together just gave me the creeps.

I'm guessing this is the common room...I don't think an ice cream parlour deserves to be wrecked by monsters!

I put this picture in previously, but anyway, here's a cheery outlook of Monster Carnival Island!

Escaped Animals!

Escaped Animals!

This doesn't really give me an excellent feeling...

This reminds me of Twisted Thicket.

Finally, something positive.

Finally, something positive.

The last picture is making me wonder if Poptropica’s going to do that two-world format they used for Red Dragon and Time Tangled, which separates the real world from the thwarted Carnival World. I’m not sure, but those islands are always exciting and fun, since there is such a drastic difference between a psycho carnival and an innocent auto-repair shop. Or is there?

What do you think?
